PHILOSOPHY, CONSERVATION & ENVIRONMENT
We at Barefoot Scuba are driven by our mutual love for the underwater world, by the overwhelming desire to be immersed in it ourselves, by a need to share its wonderment with others and by the conviction to conserve and protect our marine resources.
We understand that, in recreational diving, enjoyment and safety are inseparable and we ensure safe and fun diving by keeping our groups small and our service personal.
At Barefoot Scuba we are dedicated to the conservation of the beautiful, fragile environs of the Andaman Islands and have embarked upon a number of conservation initiatives on Havelock Island in partnership with various Environmental NGOs.
Barefoot Scuba is a PADI 100% AWARE dive center. This means that for every course you do with us we donate a minimum of US$ 10 towards conservation efforts to Project Aware. You also receive a Project Aware Certification Card from PADI instead of the regular card. Join our Family of Aware Divers.
AWARE (Aquatic World Awareness Responsibility and Education) is a non-profit organization focusing now on two major ocean issues – Sharks in Peril and Marine Debris, or trash in our ocean. Check their website www.projectaware.org
As the Andamans increases in popularity, the number of tourists visiting the island is on the rise. We urge you to display sensitivity while travelling, and assist in our conservation efforts by abiding by some simple guidelines.
Environmental Consciousness on the islands
Water is a limited resource on the islands. Conserve water as much as possible. Refill your bottles in our R.O container.
Wherever possible, avoid the use of plastics and disposables. Reuse plastic bags and bottles, and dispose of them appropriately.
When trekking or visiting uninhabited areas of the islands, please bring your trash back with you for proper disposal.
Do not indulge in consumption that leads to harmful and unsustainable activities like shark-finning, shell and coral collection, etc.
Insist that your tour and resort operators follow sensitive practices, and do not support those that don't.
Environmental Consciousness on the water
Please do not dispose of non-biodegradable trash in the ocean. Plastics cause severe damage and death to all forms of marine life, with repercussions beyond what is obvious to us.
On boating excursions please bring your trash back with you for proper disposal.
While exploring the underwater world please refrain from touching, teasing or catching marine life. This is harmful to them and potentially dangerous to you.
Do Not collect shells or feed fish.
